Clarification: When I write, I don't prepare or organize my ideas, I just write what I would say if I was talking to you in person, so sometimes my blogs end up a little messy. I don't even proof-read what I write before posting it so you may find grammatical mistakes and poorly written sentences. Sometimes I'll read my blogs a day or two after publishing them and I may re-write things that weren't too clear and any embarrassing grammatical mistake. Also, English is not my first language, so I apologize if reading my blogs become a struggle. Of course, if this is the case, I would imagine you wouldn't continue reading.

Everything Happens For A Reason Indeed

I keep hearing the expression "everything happens for a reason". People who have jumped on the "forced positivism" bandwagon love to repeat it whenever something bad happens to them or someone they know. I understand what it means, which is that every experience that you go through is meant to teach you something or in some cases, it was something "designed" specifically for you and it will probably connect to a future event that will turn the negative experience into a positive one. However, I think the expression is a little ambiguous, or perhaps even incorrect, but English is not my forte, so I can't be certain of that.

Separating The Art From The Artist.

I started writing this blog a couple of weeks ago, so when I say "a few hours ago", "last night", or "yesterday", I'm referring to that moment.

Just a few hours ago I watched a documentary on YouTube called The Bridge, about the people who choose to end their lives by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. It was interesting and haunting at the same time. It made me sad. The film shows actual footage off a number of people jumping to their deaths at the Golden Gate Bridge (making it even more intense), as well as interviews with the victims' relatives and close friends. I call them victims for lack of a better term.

About Robots And Life.

Once again, I've been thinking about things that I know absolutely nothing about: artificial intelligence and biologic life. I've always thought that life forms were kinda computers. In a way, at least. I've talked about what I think is the basic code for life, and it consisted in multiplication and survival. From this basic code evolution developed many other sub-codes that we can find in the current forms of life that we know, but in the end, they were all developed to be able to follow the original primordial code. Everything we do has to do with this original code, even if we are not aware of this.

UPDATE: A few months after I published this blog Google hired Ray Kurzweil as a director of engineering.

All You Need Is Love?

Not too long ago, I asked the following question to all my friends on Formspring:

"Assuming there was a omnipresent god who knows everything about you, past, present, future: what would you do if god told you that from now on you won't ever experience love or romantic affection of any kind, including sex?".

I Want To Live Too

A couple of days ago I was having a conversation with one of my new cyber-friends, the young and very talented Venezuelan photographer ZS, also known as the controversial MR. She's in Venezuela right now, but she's doing everything she can to relocate to Madrid, Spain, because the situation in Venezuela has deteriorated to a ridiculous point. I know at this moment things are bad, really bad over there, and they are going to get worse, much worse. Z has lived in Spain for a few months a couple of times before, so she knows the place quite well and has made a many friends over there.

USELESS THOUGHT OF THE DAY XVIII: It's Only Rock N' Roll

Originally posted October 1st, 2005 at 9:02AM

I was sitting by Micheal's front door smoking a cigarette, when Megan, the cute unstable stripper blond who was supposed to be our singer, arrived. Michael was inside with Almasi playing with some of the equipment we had. I could see that she wasn't happy. Actually, I knew she wasn't happy. After exchanging a few words with her she started kicking and scratching me, while I was trying to protect myself on the floor the best I could. Michael probably heard the commotion and came out, and got her off me. My shirt was ripped and had lots of blood on it. After Megan left we decided to go to my place so I could clean myself and get another shirt. When I got to my car I discovered that it had this white powder all over it. It was sugar. I imagine that Megan had tried to put sugar in my car's fuel tank, but because it was key locked she got frustrated and poured all the sugar all over my car. Once at my place, I was examining the wound Megan had left on my neck in the mirror. It was a deep long scratch. All this happened only a few months after arriving from boring Caracas. I remember looking at Michael and Almasi from my bathroom, smiling, and saying: "Damn, that was really rock n' roll!".

I Miss Conversations

I can't remember the last time I sat down and had a long and interesting conversation with a friend, it's been months. But it's even more depressing that it's probably been years since I had conversations with friends on a regular basis. There are many reasons for this, I suppose. Is it my own fault? I don't know, I think during the past few months I've been doing my best to get out of my cave to socialize, communicate, and connect with people. The key word is "connect". It's not happening anymore.

USELESS THOUGHT OF THE DAY XIX: Fear & Loathing in N.O. (It's a... nice day to... start again)

As some of you know, I went New Orleans this weekend to attend a wedding. It was the wedding of Angela and Brian. Yes, Brian Taylor, my best friend. Perhaps not everybody (the three or four of you who still read my blogs) is thrilled to hear about this, but at least there's some cool pics. Fuck, to tell you the truth, I wasn't very thrilled myself when I heard that I had to go to a wedding in some plantation in the middle of nowhere. Soon I discovered a very pleasant surprise awaited.

USELESS THOUGHT OF THE DAY XVII: Nothing Good About Goodbyes

A P O L O G Y

I accidentally erased my last blog, and that's why the number of this useless thought is VII and not VI. It was the lyrics for a JAMC song anyway, so not too much was really lost.
